1. National Remembrance Day Ceremony

Every November 11th Canadians remember those who lost their lives in military service for their country. Spectators are welcome to watch the ceremony which includes a Veteran’s parade and a fly-past. ** Heads up: there will be restrictions on road access around the National War Memorial before and during the ceremony.

2. Remembrance Day at the Canadian Museum of War

Visit the museum for free on Remembrance Day and participate in many activities designed to learn Canada’s military history and remember the service, sacrifice, and loss of people. Booking a ticket required. FREE.

3. 260 Fingers

26 talented ceramic artists, mainly from Ontario and Quebec, will exhibit their works, often found in galleries and collections all over Canada and the world. FREE.

5. Crave Wine and Food Festival

8. Cinderella

Created in 2011 by choreographer Jayne Smeulders, then principal dancer with the West Australian Ballet, this piece set to Prokofiev’s score pays homage to the Brothers Grimm’s tale and showcases the talent and elegance of Les Grands Ballets performers. 9. Divertimento Orchestra Fall Concert

Since 1984, Divertimento Orchestra has been enabling amateur musicians of all ages and of all backgrounds to share their love of music with the population of Ottawa. Hear the music of Brahms, Chopin, Chausson and Gounod in the beautiful Woodroffe United Church. PAID. Children 12 and under: FREE. Nov 10, 8pm – 10pm. 10. Artissima

11. Beechwood Cemetery Remembrance Day

The event sees local school students, members of the Canadian Armed Forces, and the community at large unite in a remembrance experience. The ceremony involves students and others placing poppies on each and every soldiers’ headstones in different sections of the cemetery to honour Canada’s fallen military members. FREE. Nov 11, 10:30am. 280 Beechwood Ave, Vanier.

12. Remembrance through light poppy drop

Starting on October 27, 117,000 poppies representing Fallen Canadian Veterans since the First World War will cascade virtually upon the Peace Tower at Parliament Hill and on the Senate building. FREE. Nov 11, 6:30pm – 9:30pm. Wellington St, Ottawa.

13. Poppy drop at NAC

Our Kipnes Lantern will feature the Virtual Poppy Drop in partnership with the Royal Canadian Legion, projecting 117,000 virtual poppies representing each of Canada’s fallen since the beginning of the First World War. FREE. Nov 11. 1 Elgin St, Ottawa.

14. Viernes de pelicula (Friday Movie night)

15. Social Rollerskating Ottawa Quad Session

18. The Great Gatsby

Set in the Jazz Age on Long Island, our story follows the young and mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby, as he tries to win back his lost love, Daisy Buchanan. Through the eyes of narrator Nick Carraway, audiences explore themes of wealth, love, and the corruption of the American Dream. Presented by University of Ottawa Theatre Club. Tickets $10, $15. 19. Diwali Mela
