40 events you won’t want to miss this weekend in Ottawa – Jan 17-21

We’re savouring a little taste of real winter this week. Are you staying home or are you wanting to experience the extreme cold? This is going to be a sporty weekend, especially in terms of hockey, so don’t miss the chance to cheer on your favourite team! 

1.  PWHL Ottawa vs Minnesota

Cheer on Ottawa’s women professional hockey team today! Ottawa will host unbeaten Minnesota, after its victory over Toronto last weekend. This is the second home game for Ottawa after its historic sold-out opener on January 2. Tickets from $36.  When: Wednesday Jan 17 at 7pm. Where: TD Place 1525 Bank St.

2.  Senators vs Montreal Canadiens

Cheer on the Senators in their battle against one of their classic rivals, the Montreal Canadiens. Tickets from $49. When: Thursday Jan 18 at 7pm. Where: Canadian Tire Centre, 1000 Palladium Drive.

3.  Senators vs Winnipeg Jets

Cheer on the Senators and don’t miss the Kids Takeover Game theme night. Kids will take part in unique game day and in-game experiences. The first 7,000 kids will receive a Sens Pop It. Tickets from $40. When: Saturday Jan 20 at 3pm. Where: Canadian Tire Centre, 1000 Palladium Drive.

4.  67’s games

Cheer on Ottawa’s junior hockey league this weekend. Tickets from $23. When:  Friday Jan 19 at 7pm against Saginaw Spirit. Sunday Jan 21 at 2pm against Owen Sound Attack. Where: TD Place, 1015 Bank St.

5.  Ontario Women’s Provincial Pinball Championship

Pinball Women Ottawa invites pinball fans of all ages to come watch as the top 16 women in the province compete for the Provincial Championship Title, which is the passport to represent Ontario in the IFPA Women’s North American Championship in March. 6. Capital Wedding Show

7. The National Ballet of Ukraine 

This once-in-a-lifetime performance by the world-renowned National Ballet of Ukraine from the Taras Shevchenko National Opera House features excerpts from some of the world’s greatest ballets such as Le Corsaire, Giselle, Don Quixote, while also highlighting Ukrainian culture through traditional dance. 8. Ottawa Ukrainian Children Choir 

The Ottawa Ukrainian Children’s Choir will be performing a free concert before the 3 pm performance of the National Ballet of Ukraine. Enjoy an enchanting concert by the Ottawa Ukrainian Children’s Choir on Sunday, January 21 at the National Arts Centre. Sunday Jan 21, 2pm. Peter A. Herrndorf Place, 1 Elgin Street Ottawa. 

9. Cirque a la Carte 

An evening of tantalizing talents with an intimate atmosphere where you will experience an exclusive showcase of circus acts, including aerial acrobatics, juggling and dancing, all crafted with passion and creativity by talented local artists. 10. Ottawa Jazz Orchestra 

The Ottawa Jazz Orchestra returns to the National Arts Centre and kicks off its 2024 season with an evening of fabulous swing music featuring seminal works originally performed by legendary bandleaders Artie Shaw and Benny Goodman. PAID. Saturday Jan 20. Fourth Stage, 1 Elgin Street, Ottawa. 

11. Women of the Fur Trade 

This lively historical satire of survival and cultural inheritance shifts perspectives from the male gaze onto women’s power in the past and present through the lens of the rapidly changing world of the Canadian fur trade. PAID. Jan 17-27. Azrieli Studio, 1 Elgin Street, Ottawa. 

12. Ottawa Home and Remodeling Show 

The Ottawa Home & Remodelling Show is a vibrant marketplace where you can shop for home-related products and services, experience stunning displays to help inspire your next home project, connect with industry experts, and enjoy informative presentations from renowned local and international home professionals. 13. Céilí 

Join this Irish social dance. Live music, door prize draw, a fam-friendly, fun-filled afternoon, everyone welcome. PAID. Jan 21, 2-5pm. Saint Brigid’s Centre for the Arts, 310 St. Patrick St, Ottawa. 

14.  Rideau Hall skating rink

The historic skating rink at Rideau Hall, which dates back 1872, is open until March 3 (weather permitting). Check out the Winter Pavilion, a restored heritage building where you can warm up and lace up your skates. FREE. Mondays to Fridays from 5pm to 8:30pm (last entry at 7:45pm) Saturdays and Sundays from 12pm to 8:30pm (last entry at 7:45pm). At Rideau Hall, 1 Sussex Drive.

15.  Skating Trails

Two popular skating trails are open in Ottawa. Riveroak Skating Trail and Icelynd Skating Trail. Enjoy skating on trails through orchards or forest. Check out their websites for details and prices. Riveroak, 2900 York’s Corners Road. Icelynd, 6865 Fernbank Rd, Stittsville.

16. Iceberg at the Canadian Museum of History

Visit this installation made up of a series of illuminated metal arches that each make a particular sound. Arranged to form a tunnel, the arches beckon you to enter and listen to — and even play — the giant organ. FREE.When: Until Feb 19Where: Canadian Museum of History, Waterfall court, 100 Laurier St.

17. Parliament Immersive Experience

Explore the main Parliament Building, also called the Centre Block, in this innovative experience that includes an exhibition and a 360° multimedia show. FREE. Jan-May, 8:30am – 4:30pm. 211 Sparks Street.

18. Lansdowne Market

Shop from over 75 vendors offering the finest local produce, baked goods, pantry essentials, crafts, hot meals, and much more. Pets are allowed. Every Sunday from 9am to 3pm. At the Aberdeen Pavilion, 1000 Exhibition Way.
