23 events you won’t want to miss this weekend in Ottawa

1. Tamal Festival

Try a ‘tamal’ – a popular food in all Latin America. Made of corn or rice, tamales are yummy and have different versions depending on the country. FREE.

2. Irish Film Festival

This event comes back in person after the pandemic hiatus to celebrate the best of Ireland. The line-up includes Oscar nominated films. Tickets from $10 not including tax.

3. Signatures Originals Spring Craft Sale

This show features 150 Canadian artisans covering everything from jewelry to home decor, fashion, body care, etc. There will be a “Sip + Shop” promotion on Friday evening. Ticket price includes a cocktail. Tickets: $8. Youth 17 and under free.

4. Atletico Ottawa vs Halifax Wanderers

Cheer Ottawa’s soccer team in the home opener game against Halifax Wanderers. Special promotion “Pay what you can” in support of CHEO.

7. Outdoor & Adventure Travel Show

8. Golden Palace Half-price Egg Roll event

9. La Festa Primavera

11. Social Roller-Skating Ottawa Quad Session

12. 21 Gun Salute. A tribute to AC/DC

13. Benefit Art Show for the Ottawa Food Bank

14. Sensory Sunday at Bank of Canada Museum

For Autism Awareness Month in April, the Museum will provide a sensory-friendly experience Sundays Apr 16 and 23. 9am-10am for those avoiding crowds. From 10am to 12pm sensory activities continue during regular museum hours. Address: 30 Bank St.

15. Eastern Ontario Craft & Gift Market

50 vendors and a variety of products. Free admission and free parking. April 15 from 11am to 4pm. At Nepean Sportsplex Hall A, 1701 Woodroffe Avenue.

16. Sugar Bush at Stanley`s Olde Maple Lane Farm

Enjoy Taffy on the snow, tractor-drawn rides, and a barn full of animals. See how maple syrup is made. Tickets: $10. From March 4 to April 16 from 10am to 3pm. At 2452 York`s Corners Rd, Edwards, ON.

17. Wheelers pancake house, sugar camps and museum

Enjoy a meal, tour the Maple Heritage Museum and Forest & Farm Museum, stroll around the sugar camp, do some hiking/snowshoeing/cross country skiing on the nature trails, and buy delicious organic maple syrup. Reservations required.

18. Musical Evenings at Casino Lac Leamy

Bar 7 at Casino Lac Leamy is launching its musical evenings with a multimedia screen, and live performances, from Thursdays to Saturdays. FREE.

19. Arboretum Hill Club Snowshoeing Workout

Join the AHC for a snowshoeing workout at the Arboretum. All ages, all levels. Friday April 14 at 6:29 am. FREE. Dogs welcome. Lots of free parking. Meet them at Fletcher Wildlife Garden parking lot (entrance is 100m south of Prince of Wales roundabout).

20. Farmers’ Winter Market

The Farmers’ market is back for the winter season every Sunday until April 30. Fresh vegetables and fruit, meat, baked goods, spirits, crafts and more. FREE.

21. Wolves: Shapeshifters in a changing world

22. Owl Rendez-Vous

23. Exhibition: Uramado AR, the awakening of the Tanukis

Uramado is a treasure hunt route in augmented reality. It tells the story of Tanukis which are spirits of the forest from Japanese mythology. The participants are invited to download the free app Uramado AR, Tanukis awake ( on IOS and Android ) to start this treasure hunt. FREE.
